The Home Arts & Science competition and exhibition includes four divisions: Home Arts Sewing, Home Arts Quilting, Home Arts Crafts & Hobbies and Home Arts Culinary. Prizes are ribbons, cash and awards. It is open to all Navajo tribal members and all residents of the Navajo Nation. Special awards are offered for contestants under 12 years old, ages 12 to18, special education and special needs. 9.4 Mon 1pm-5pm: Home Arts & Science will be taking entries 9.6 Wed 10am-5pm: Judging, exhibit will be closed to facilitate judging and exhibit setup. Home Arts & Science exhibit will be open to the public on: Demonstrations will be ongoing Friday and Saturday during the fair by the Rez Quilters of Window Rock, Toadlena Trading Post, TAOS/Trans Navajo Foods and Gallup Service Mart.
Home Arts & Science provides an opportunity for participants to show off their skills and compete for prizes in the areas of home arts. The event also provides information and encourages growth in skills necessary to provide a positive home environment for the family. Visitors are inspired by the excellent workmanship and enjoy seeing what their neighbors have accomplished. The first 100 who enter the competition will receive a $10 Fina Store gift certificate and a bag of Navajo Pride Frybread mix. Besides ribbons and cash prizes, competitors can vie for a brand new Janome serger, Janome sewing machine, Toadlena/Two Grey Hills rug, KitchenAid Mixer and gift Certificates. Home Arts & Science is a sponsored event of the Navajo Nation Fair, hosted by the Rez Quilters of Window Rock.
