Navajo Nation Fair Parade spectators Sept.2009

Parade falls in line for Navajo Nation Fair

WINDOW ROCK, Ariz. – It’s been a long road – literally – for the Navajo Nation Special Events Office to getting the parade set for the 64th Annual Navajo Nation Fair, but plans are finally falling in line.

After months of debate on the route of the parade, Special Events will continue with the original parade route from Tse Bonito, NM to St. Michaels Junction, Route 112.

Because of the dangers of the road, Special Events is encouraging the public not to camp out along the highway during the duration of the fair. Also, because of the high-volume of patrons walking along the highway, access points to residential and commercial areas will be closed during the event by local law enforcement.

Road closures will go into effect at 7 am (DST) at Route 12, Route 112, IR12 and Highway 264 East and West bound. Closures will reopen shortly after the parade concludes.

To bypass the parade, local law enforcement is encouraging the public to take Route 112 North towards Fort Defiance or Route 12 South towards I-40. Rodeo contestants competing Saturday morning must make prior arrangements. No exceptions will be allowed.

Any spectators along Highway 264 are discouraged from parking in high-risk areas, and Special Events Office and the Navajo Nation will not be held responsible for any loss of property or accidents that may occur along Highway 264.

The parade line-up will begin at 5 am (DST) and the parade will begin at 9 am on Saturday, September 11, 2010.
