Opening Ceremony kicks-off Navajo Nation Fair
WINDOW ROCK, Ariz. – In the past, the opening ceremony of the Navajo Nation Fair could be described as brief and quaint, but with the help of the President’s office, the 64th Annual Navajo Nation Fair’s ribbon cutting was anything but that.
Held in a large tent at the entrance to the fairgrounds, guest were welcomed to the Navajo Nation Fair and encouraged to take part in a week that would showcase the beauty of the Navajo land and the Navajo people.
“That’s what the fair is all about,” stated the Honorable President Dr. Joe Shirley.” We showcase our beauty, our way of life.”
After a night of witnessing the first contemporary Christian concert on the main stage at the Dean C. Jackson Arena, the opening ceremony witnessed around 100 guests ready to take part in the fair of new beginnings.
“The people are who we’re keeping in mind because we want to have something for everyone,” stated fair manager, Norma Bowman. “Despite what people have been reading, we’re trying to make things different for the people.”
As part of the fair of new beginnings, the opening ceremony provided each attendee with a free meal and a commemorative bag.
President Shirley, the First Lady, Norma Bowman and the current Miss Navajo, Tashina Nelson, participated in the ribbon cutting.
